About

The Campaign

Not on Our Dime a volunteer-led campaign made up of a coalition of Pittsburghers who are fed up with our public money going to support genocide, apartheid, and ethnic cleansing. Beginning in January 2025, Not on Our Dime set out to collect over 10,500 signatures from voters in the City of Pitttsburgh to place a Referendum on the Ballot.

Not on Our Dime is a campaign fiscally sponsored by Project for Responsive Democracy, a 501(c)(4) non-proift organization founded to promote and support public access to participatory decision-making in government.

The Ballot Question

After several months of collaboration with local organizers, leaders and experts, we wrote an Amendment for Pittsburgh’s Home Rule Charter intending to be placed on the ballot for the 2025 Municipal Primary. This text addresses many of the concerns we encountered as the effort over the summer, and is on the back side of each petition. The question that appears on the petitions, summarizing the Amendment text:

“Shall the Pittsburgh Home Rule Charter be amended to align Pittsburgh’s finances with the City’s moral standards by: (1) establishing a financial policy to divert funds from governments engaged in genocide and apartheid—such as the state of Israel—and corporations doing business with them; (2) implementing investment policies with goals to reduce arms production and promote human dignity;  and (3) increasing transparency of City business relationships and investments?”
